Preparing Files for Navy Cruise Books

Here are a few tips to make sure you get the quality book that you deserve.

Make sure all digital photos are taken at 300dpi (dots per inch) or higher.
When preparing a full color page, prepare the file in "CMYK" mode.
When preparing a black and white page, prepare your file in black only. This also means that when you are scanning color photos for a black and white; scan the image in "Grayscale."
Make sure that if you want your page to "bleed" (or run off the edge of the sheet), supply us with an extra 1/8" around the page so we have room to trim the page correctly. Please see this link for more information on bleeds.
Your page size should be set up as 8.25"x11" including bleed.
Fonts: Be sure to include a fonts folder. Include all of the screen and printer fonts used in your creative file.
(Don't forget the fonts in your embedded graphics.)
Trapping: The digital press has extremely tight registration because of plates being directly imaged on the press. In most cases, trapping is not nessesary. ALWAYS CHOOSE TO OVERPRINT BLACK TEXT. If you feel trapping is required, use a 0.3 trap.

Convert your completed pages into a PDF. To do this you will have to have Adobe Acrobat Distiller. This is a great option so feel free to call us to learn more. Once you have your PDF files you can send them by e-mail, ftp, or burn them to a CD-Rom and mail it to us.
Save your file and compress it using a compression tool such as Zip or Stuff. Once you have done that, simply save it to a CD-Rom.
